New CEO’s Vision for Foundation

14 Apr 2020

New Sydney Eye Hospital Foundation Chief Executive, Linda Fagan acknowledges the world has turned on its head since commencing in March.

“It’s heart-warming to see the Australian community responding to this global health crisis and our thoughts are with all those deeply affected.

“Amidst all this upheaval we’ve seen deep appreciation for our health care, our essential workers and the work carried out at Sydney Eye Hospital.”

Linda is looking towards the recovery stage and getting on with the job of telling the message of the Foundation. She feels for too long the Foundation has been the best kept secret in Sydney and New South Wales.

“The Foundation started in 1981 and has an enviable record of achievement in providing funds for the world-class hospital care,” she says.

“Thanks to our generous donors, we’ve provided state of the art technology equipment, contributed millions of dollars to training the best specialists from around the world and funded innovative research projects.

“We’ve just gone about our business, doing it brilliantly and all without saying too much about it.  I think it’s time we started banging a few drums and let people know what we are doing.”

Linda Fagan MFIA, joins the Foundation with over twenty years’ experience in executive leadership with specialist skills and experience in fundraising, marketing and communications, and stakeholder engagement.

Before joining the Foundation, Linda led fundraising, marketing and community relations at national charity, The Kids’ Cancer Project, which funds childhood cancer research.

Her professional career includes working in leadership positions with NSW Police Force, Canberra Grammar School, Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation, and Australian Red Cross Blood Service.

“I’ve worked in very successful organisations and the reason they are so successful is because they tell their story and work in partnership with their community and generous supporters,” Linda said.

In welcoming Linda, the chairman of the Foundation Board, Dr Justin Playfair says, “The Sydney Eye Hospital Foundation Board has recognised it is now time to expand and deepen the impact of the Foundation. This new era will focus on engaging donors, enhancing data and technical capabilities and seeking collaborative opportunities to benefit the patients and the team of professionals at Sydney Eye Hospital.”

Linda notes the Foundation will celebrate its 40th anniversary next year. “We have an amazing story to tell. It’s a wonderful opportunity to showcase our specialist services and how our donors and volunteers support the hospital’s vital work.”
